Feed readiness criteria

The checker is not a black box. Every check is a numbered criterion below, with its weight, its test and where the evidence comes from. Your score is the weighted share of items passing each criterion, out of 100. Free to adopt and cite under CC BY 4.0.

Version 0.3 · updated 2026-09-26 · JSON · run it yourself (CLI)

  1. C-01 · weight 10 · since v0.1

Every item has a stable ID and a title

Each product carries a unique identifier and a human-readable title. Platform-stated

  2. C-02 · weight 10 · since v0.1

Title carries category and use-case language

The title is a descriptive phrase of five or more words, not a SKU code. Inferred

Where we differ · Google's spec asks for accurate titles and warns against keyword stuffing, but sets no minimum length. The five-word floor is our judgement, not a platform rule.

  3. C-03 · weight 20 · since v0.1

Natural-language description of 20 words or more

Each item has a prose description long enough to explain what it is. Platform-stated

Where we differ · The specs require a description but set no minimum length. The 20-word threshold is ours.

  4. C-04 · weight 15 · since v0.2

Description names who it is for or when to use it

The description contains use-case language: who it suits, what problem it solves, or when to use it. Inferred

Where we differ · No platform spec asks for this. It is the most heavily weighted inferred criterion and the one most likely to change as evidence arrives.

  5. C-05 · weight 10 · since v0.1

    Price and availability are machine-readable

Each item states a price and a stock status in structured fields. Platform-stated

  6. C-06 · weight 10 · since v0.1

    Brand is declared

Each item names its brand or manufacturer. Platform-stated

  7. C-07 · weight 10 · since v0.1

Category or product type is set

Each item carries a category from a taxonomy or a product type path. Platform-stated

Where we differ · Google now assigns categories automatically and treats the field as optional. We keep it because other surfaces do not auto-classify.

  8. C-08 · weight 5 · since v0.1

Image link is a valid URL

Each item links to an image over http(s). Platform-stated

  9. C-09 · weight 5 · since v0.1

Product page link is a valid URL

Each item links to its own landing page. Platform-stated

  10. C-10 · weight 5 · since v0.2

At least one disqualifier attribute is declared

Each item states a variant or identity attribute: colour, size, material, GTIN, MPN, age group or gender. Inferred

Where we differ · Google requires some of these only for certain categories. Treating any one as enough is our simplification.
