The First Answer Ad Citations

What answer.ad's live citation tracker shows about the earliest sponsored placements inside ChatGPT, Amazon Rufus, and Perplexity.

Answer advertising is no longer theoretical. Sponsored placements have begun appearing inside AI-generated answers, and answer.ad's Ad Spy tracker records each verified citation our research desk observes. This report shares what the first wave teaches us.

Early citations cluster around high-intent prompts

The placements we have logged so far appear against prompts with clear commercial intent: product comparisons, "which tool should I buy" questions, and renewal-stage frustrations. Purely informational prompts remain ad-free in our observations.

Winning brands tend to be named alongside a concrete reason — a price point, a capability, a fit statement — rather than a bare brand mention. The citation reads like an answer, not an interruption.

Methodology

Every entry in the tracker records the prompt, the winning brand, the platform, the ad format, and the date of observation. Members can browse the full, continuously updated dataset in the dashboard's Ad Spy library.
